Sugar Maple: Acer saccharum

 Given it is Canada Day (or as Mark Steyn likes to refer to it: Dominion Day), 

Canada has ten species of maple, but everyone knows the sugar maple is the best!

  1. Maple is also some of the best hardwood for furniture making: very dense and closed grained. Good for table tops and cutting boards.

    1. Maple is generally straight grained (and quite nice), but when it is figured with checks, swirls and fire crossed grains it is as beautiful as the finest mahogany and walnut.
